Most Favourite Bits Of Melbourne

I went to Melbourne for a few days recently and here are a few of my favourite bits:

Gertrude Street - Which includes loads of coffee bars and small boutiques selling handprinted stuff. Third Drawer Down (just off Gertrude at 93 George St) collaborate with over 80 established and emerging artists and produce limited edition textiles, objects and stationary items. I loved the tea-towels of Camilla Engman. See below photo showing her "Hairy Lady" design.

Another favourite was this teapot tea-towel from Betsey Walton. Check her website for her gorgeous illustrations.

A great store for handprinted home accessories is Spacecraft. Also not to be missed is Meet Me At Mikes - selling a selection of handcrafted clothes and accessories - check their blog for details of their recently published book which includes lots of crafty projects.
Melbourne Museum is found on Nicholson and is definately worth a visit to find out all you can about the history of the city. Make sure you look up in the living Forest Gallery area so you don't miss the owls sat in the trees.

Whilst I was visiting Australia the National Gallery of Victoria was showing Ron Mueck. The gallery shop has a great selection of artists wares and I bought myself a fab wooden necklace by Elk Accessories.
Definately worth a visit whilst in this area is the amazing street art - the photos here are of Hosier Lane.

Also in this area is Craft Victoria on Flinders Lane - a great store for handmade objects.

Finally, the signage of Pellegrinis, 66 Bourke Street.
